in four years, i've been assigned to three different positions dah, albeit in the same department. i started off as an electrical site supervisor and had four subordinates. the biggest challenge was giving instructions to much older and experienced technicians. but luckily they didn't give me a hard time at all. in fact they helped me a lot settling into working life by teaching me about electrical stuff. biasalaaa, mana boleh compare four years of university lectures against 15 years of working experience beb... i was directly in charge of day to day maintenance of electrical equipment. macam kat bawah nie...
after a year, i became a maintenance planner. so less time at site, more time in the office. actually not that much different pun (sebab waktu jadi supervisor banyak lepak kat office kot.. haha). waktu ni in charge of both electrical and instrument planning, so kena laa belajar pasal instrument sket2. i get to learn about control valve, transmitter, plc etc. bagus gak, at least takde laa nganga jer kalau lepak ngan wife and her work friends and dengar diorang sembang-sembang pasal kerja. hehe. setakat 4-20mA tu paham lagi laa...
a year later, the department did a re-organisation. i was back in charge of electrical maintenance, as an electrical engineer until today. i had to say this is the best position thus far, mainly because i have no subordinates to worry about and day to day maintenance activities are covered by the site supervisor. kalau ada urgent job or troubleshooting or plant shutdown jer baru masuk kilang. apart from that, work mostly focusing on 'analysis' and mini upgrading works. heh heh. got a lot of time for myself, balik pun selalunya on time which means more time for wifey and golf...
all in all, i have no complaints about the job. pasal bosses or work colleagues yang pelik tu, kat mana2 pun ada. if they do not exist, then we wont have anyone to 'kutuk' during lunch time, right? satu jer, the works have become so routine that i sometimes lost focus. nak kena venture into project management pulak ni. (related to electrical engineering, of course). it would also be better if the work location is in klcc. amin...
