employee provident fund (epf) declared a mere 4.5% dividend for 2008, despite recording highest ever gross income at rm20b last year (increase of over 9%). this is very low compared to the 5.8% dividend for 2007.
the lower dividend payout was due to global financial crisis... betul ke ni? or was it due to too much money spent on uncessary projects and government bailouts... ermmm...
for majority of malaysians, epf is the only major saving towards their life after retirement. on this basis, the government should put more effort in ensuring that the money they saved in epf grows at a rate that is considerably higher than the inflation rate. kalau setakat 4.5%, baik amik duit tu, letak dalam asb, dapat gak 8% setahun..
all the more reasons to take out money from epf and invest it somewhere else...
